BRANDEXPERT “Ostrov Svobody” developed a visual brand strategy and winery brand identity for Chateau Ay-Daniel, designed a flagship catalog and print collateral, and created a flexible visual system for advertising communications. The project also included professional photography for selected product and lifestyle scenes; archival and contemporary materials supplied by the client completed the visual narrative.
Chateau Ay-Danil (formerly Château Côtes de Saint Daniel) is an estate winery with complete vineyard-to-bottle production on the southern coast of Crimea. Viticulture in the area dates back to the 7th–6th centuries BC, and in 1823 Count Mikhail Semyonovich Vorontsov established an estate here. In the late 19th century, Ay-Danil became part of the imperial family’s estates. The winery was revived in the 21st century while preserving the architectural character of the former imperial wine cellar. Today, Chateau Ay-Daniel brings together centuries of heritage, the expressive Crimean terroir, and a culture of estate winemaking—from vineyard to oak aging and bottling. A winery with this depth of heritage needed a visual communication system that could express its history while showing the estate as it lives today. Three narrative pillars shaped the project: place, wine, and history. Together, they defined the catalog’s story, the visual brand strategy, and the principles for ongoing brand communications.
The BRANDEXPERT “Ostrov Svobody” team translated the existing visual brand codes into an editorial design system. A warm, natural palette of wine, stone, wood, and paper tones creates a calm, refined atmosphere. Large-format photography, a spacious modular grid, expressive serif typography, and sensitive handling of archival material give the publication historical depth and a contemporary visual rhythm. The brand’s premium character is conveyed through precise proportions, measured pacing, and the tactile quality of each spread. Rooted in the restrained aesthetics of a wine estate, the visual system extends across product sections, print collateral, and advertising design.
The flagship expression of the winery’s brand identity was its editorial catalog. Conceived as a journey through Ay-Danil, it moves from panoramic landscapes to details of the vines, from archival photography to contemporary views of the winery, and from historical essays to stories about production and the wine collection. The winery catalog design brought together content structure, typographic hierarchy, layout standards, and principles for selecting imagery. The result works simultaneously as a brand manifesto, a presentation tool for partners, and an atmospheric guide to the wine estate.
The wine section traces the journey from vineyard, hand harvesting, and sorting to oak aging and the finished collections. A separate chapter is devoted to the historic wine library. Still-life compositions with bottles, glass, wood, and natural textures extend the aesthetic of the wine estate and highlight the character of each range. Product spreads balance clear information hierarchy with emotional impact. Wine is presented as the result of place, time, and craftsmanship—within the winery, in a gastronomic context, and as part of a culture of gathering and conversation.
The southern coast of Crimea is revealed through geography, climate, and the texture of the land. The Crimean Mountains, the Black Sea, sun-facing slopes, and dark shale soils become protagonists in the visual narrative. A map, wide landscape photography, and close-up studies of grapes make the connection between terroir and wine character immediately clear. The photography captures the light, air, and natural beauty of Ay-Danil, while the spacious composition of the spreads creates a sense of openness. Place becomes the origin of flavor and a defining element of the winery brand identity.
A portrait of Count Vorontsov, photographs of the imperial family at Ay-Danil, historic views, and images of the old cellars appear alongside contemporary vineyards and winery interiors. Archival material becomes evidence of continuity and strengthens the brand’s cultural capital. Monochrome spreads lend the story documentary precision, while the transition to color photography brings it into the present. History is embedded in the brand identity, providing a rich content foundation for contemporary communications.
For the project, the agency carried out a professional shoot for selected product and lifestyle scenes and provided art direction for the visual narrative as a whole. Archival and contemporary materials supplied by the client were carefully curated and integrated into a cohesive story with a consistent mood. The catalog design principles were extended into print, advertising, and PR materials. Modular layouts, expressive typography, product still lifes, quotations, and atmospheric lifestyle imagery form a flexible toolkit for ongoing brand communications.
The result is a cohesive visual language for the winery. The project brought Chateau Ay-Daniel’s multilayered heritage into a clear contemporary image: place lends authenticity, wine creates a sensory focus, and history adds depth and trust. The flagship catalog became a long-term communications asset, while the brand identity created a foundation for presentation, advertising, and PR materials. Chateau Ay-Daniel emerges as a contemporary wine estate defined by a distinctive terroir, a living sense of history, and a character all its own.
